Two gaming companies Games2win and Indiagames have done their individual research and came out with two very different and interesting insights on gaming.

Here are the insights from the indiagames survey on more than 10,000 paid subscribers of its Games on Demand (GoD) subscription:

  • Mobile gaming saw growth of users from smaller towns and at lower price points
  • Online gaming had 3 million gamers
  • Peak time of gaming was 7 pm with the maximum play recorded between 7 pm and 12 am which is prime time.

Key observations from the study recorded that in 2007 the total game play on the service was recorded as

  • Average time spent of about 4 hours per user per month.
  • 60 % of the gamers were aged above 22.
  • 50 % of the gamers were from North, 25 % from West followed by 20 % from South.
  • 13 per cent of the gamers in 2007 were women.
  • Casual gaming was 47 % share followed by strategy and action with 17 % each.

Games2win Report which surveyed its 2 million gamers had other interesting insights:

  •  American Girls form more than 80% of Games2win’s Out Of India traffic
  •  Gamers spend an average of 10 minutes per visit

The above trends point towards two things: One is that gaming is fast becoming an alternative entertainment medium to the youth and second is that online gaming companies in India are actually global in nature and can start to shift their focus on international markets till the domestic market matures.
