Food Distribution SMS Alert for Farmers

In a wonderful step towards including the population at the lower strata of the income, the government of India has announced new a service which will allow them to receive SMS alerts for the food distribution.
Under a scheme, the Government of Chhattisgarh plans to provide 35 Kilo of rice per month to each family at a subsidized rate of Rs 3 per Kg. The families that wish to avail of the facility should register themselves at the food and civil supplies department website.
The SMS service will start from January 26. 3.4 million families are planned to be distributed with subsidized food.
This one is a excellent example of how the technology can be employed to aid the ones who need it the most – people at the bottom of the economic pyramid.
We just hope the government can execute it well. And starting with this, I hope to see a lot of other such applications for the farmers and rural population. Even companies, if they can find out ways to benefit this part the nation, can benefit immensely. The volume, is what will drive the business there.
