Mobile Internet Realization and its Evolution

Posted by Harshil Karia on January 14th, 2008.

The major buzz in the Mobile Internet space is the concept of a Mobile Wallet becoming a reality soon.

The mobile can be a key, money, an e ticket, a card, an identification device – everything a consumer essentially carries in his wallet.

Think about it – this really combines demographic and contextual analytical data.

The mobile phone can really become an all pervasive device. This can primarily be done as soon as it becomes an ‘identification device’. So tickets can be booked and without any physical evidence, mobiles can be scanned.

This really shows that mobiles are headed into the lifestyle age. Where lifestyles revolve around a mobile.

Another thought – because mobiles become identification tags, brand loyalty cards too can be stored on the mobile. So I don’t need to manage 5 cards for BP, Pantloons, LifeStyle etc – ubiquity of a network identifies me.

So one can see a scenario where all the possibilies that exist as a result of the ubiquitous Internet being integrated into the mobile.

some mobile companies are dropping the word ‘phone ‘ altogether.. Nokia calls it a ‘mobile device’.. some others call it the ‘personal hub’… a central hub where bluetooth like transmissions will be beamed to the hidden ‘hub’… from the pedometer in the shoes (like iPod and Nike dide) to the wireless handsfree, to the watch, keypads integrated into clothes. heaven knows what else…
