The Digital fraternity today is an extremely small group of Individuals.
There are no formal courses in Digital.
The Digital Gurus of today are people who believed in digital and experimented with it. Their learning has come through experimentation. They have made their mistakes and gained insights into a medium that is into a very nascent stage.
The Younger generation of today (26 – 33) are more experimental. They are the ones who are taking the risks and maximizing their learning’s.
At the Core of it, digital is just another media vehicle. The principles essentially remain the same because the audience and larger goals are similar. True there are technological barriers but honestly speaking one does not need to be a hardcore “techie” to be good at Digital.
One needs to be good at the “basics” and apply those “basics” well.
By 2020, speculators say that most media will be digital. Thus from a career perspective, it really makes sense to have Digital in your resume.
Online Marketing Comprises of:
Strategy: Understanding clients and providing them strategy based solutions
Creative: Developing virals, flash ads, videos online etc.
Media: Search engine marketing, SMO, Display advertising, email marketing
Technology: Ajax, API’s, Web 2.0
For Online Marketing the 2 Tools you need to have are:
- The tools of technology
- The tools of advertising and marketing
In India, today there are only 32.2 million ‘active’ users. So this number bound to grow. Mostly young people today are spending more time on the Internet than they are on TV – although this is a small number, the number is slated to grow. It shows a trend. So stack up your digital boots and start developing your skill sets – there’s an interesting job waiting for you.
