I – Mode: How it became the biggest Global Heavyweight in the Mobile VAS Market

I – mode by DoCoMo is a browser platform that allows users to access VAS content easily.

DoCoMo could be considered the Distributor when it comes to the mobile market. How did DoCoMo become a VAS heavyweight and get a higher share of the pie?

Shig Sando, head of DoCoMo Japan was in Delhi recently and he made a very relevant point that perhaps gives cues to any businessman. DoCoMo worked closely with content providers and nurtured them to create an eco system where content creators and providers, consumers, and DoCoMo – all three benefit. He spoke about transparency, support for partners, and information sharing. When I mean all 3 benefit – there wasn’t just lip service. DoCoMo gives content providers 91% revenues that are made off the content they produce.

So in a sense this is business learning because in any business one needs to adequately nurture the relevant stakeholders in the business chain.
