Motorola Following The New Expansion Mantra: Acquisitions!

Acquisitions is surely the new expansion mantra. We have blogged on – WPP acquiring Quasar Media, UTV acquiring ITNation and now it is Motorola who has keen interest in acquiring Soundbuzz, the Asian online and mobile music company. Financial terms regarding the deal are yet to be disclosed. The acquisition is expected to close by April 2008.

This acquisition clears out the point that Motorola are now re-structuring their marketing strategies. With a view to expand its MotoMusic service in countries like India they are trying to attempt to tap the delivery of music content on the Internet and mobile.

Regarding the acquisition Lloyd Mathias, Director, Motorola India, said, “We have acquired Soundbuzz globally as we are looking at bringing our MotoMusic service to India. We will be looking at expanding the services of the MotoMusic website to India.”

Bill Werner, senior vice-president, future solutions and technology for mobile devices, Motorola, said, “(The acquisition) will provide Motorola with one of the most extensive music libraries in the Asia Pacific region, advance our music and video offerings in Australia and Southeast Asia, and build on the success of our MotoMusic services in China.”

Soundbuzz operates its own online music store and also has been working as technology and content partner for the music download services of global firms such as Hutchison 3, Motorola, Airtel, SingTel, Sony BMG and Windows Media Player 10.

Now the companies are increasingly beginning to understand the importance of the Internet as a marketing medium. One can expect more of such acquisitions in near future. I expect similar news from the companies like Nokia, Reliance, Sony Ericson and others in the same business. This will surely arise more of competition but for the users they might get benefited with plenty of free cool stuffs.
