Online Classifieds is one crowded segment with specialist players for jobs, matrimony, real estate and cars like naukri, shaadi, bharatmatrimony and carwale and also generic craiglist clones like click.in, kijiji.in, indianclassifieds.com and others. With so much clutter it does become an important move when a player ads convenience related features for users.

In an innovative move, Clickindia.com another generic classified portal has launched what they claim as India’s first M2I (Mobile to Internet) classified advertising service. Advertisers can now simply use their mobile phones to shoot pictures of the subject, key in ad content and send via SMS to 99586 49430 or email to post[at]clickindia[dot]com. In no time, the website will start displaying the ad online under relevant category and location. Users can even send plain text ads via SMS carrying their offer profile and contact details.

“Further, advertisers can even instruct to repost, edit or delete their ads simply by sending respective instructions via SMS specifying their unique ad ID” says Sushan Rungta, Co-founder, Clickindia.com. Online visitors to Clickindia.com can search through and respond to ads using contact details given in the ad or by using the response box given online.

I expect more and more mobile especially sms based integration for classifieds as well as other web startups. The convenience and reach of mobiles multiplies distribution and reach far beyond what the web can offer and this is a great value add for any internet based startup.

  1. The folks at Sulekha have a mobile classifieds service as well. This launched almost 2 months ago, hence they would be the first company to launch a mobile classifieds service not Click India..
