ROI! Return on Investment can be tracked and that’s the sole reason why Online Advertising is the future of advertising and why a company like Google is valued at such an astronomical figure.

But what’s wrong in India?

While advertisers in the Western world have welcomed the entire evolution of the web and web 2.0 - with increasing stress on time spent on the site and looking at means in which they can interact with the prospective buyer…Indian digital agencies continue to be bogged down by page views and impressions served.

How else can you explain this screenshot?
Ignore the content and look at the ads!

No offense to Rediff or the agency which has bought banner impressions from them - but isn’t it a little ridiculous serving the same banner thrice on the page? Not only will it reduce CTR rates and appear intrusive to the reader but also it’s pretty ridiculous if the client is being charged for 3 banner impressions on one particular pageview.

Money is being spent just for the sake of spending money.

A social media strategy using Rediff’s iShare platform to showcase Skoda Fabia videos and perhaps revolving a contest around it would have made better sense. It’s about time the big portals get a little inventive with the advertising solutions which they offer - because if the things remain as above, I doubt Brand Managers would be looking at Banner Ads on such portals as effective means of Online Advertising.

Lol … I guess Skoda wants to test out something which can be called “You can’t Ignore us, We are so in Your Face” branding methodology!

BTW .. just to confess .. it did work on me .. I ended up clicking on one of those banners earlier today .. I am putting my money that you clicked thru as well :)

  3. Welcome back Eka! :) Glad to see you blogging again on WAT! :)

  4. Naw…..didn’t work with me.

The banners were of the same type too - if the threee banners talked about 3 different features of the car - then yes…perhaps it’s something different.

And on further surfing of the site you’ll see ads coming one at a time….

  5. nice observation! - true you need to be relevant and contextual and go beyond the website to leverage the power of the ubiquitous Internet.
