Nice Review Harshil, I just want to add a little piece of info here.

There is another great website for aspiring international students i.e. www.go-abroad.net/study this site offers some very unique features like Indian Students Associations Abroad, Country wise cost comparison, Survival Guide for International Students, & much more.

Sumedh - no quantifiable criteria for choosing the website. You would notice that i havent given any scores for this very reason.

You would appreciate that here at WATBlog, we cover trends etc. and we have been observing this space throughout the year so this is a compilation of the trends that we think are much bigger than others.

Indian Moms - we have a post on the India Scene soon - today mostly!

ning.com seems extremely interesting - but isnt it the same as creating a group or event within facebook - what are the additional features?

ditto for sixgroups.

ning seems extremely interesting though in the sense that it is a platform for micro social networks to be created. Never thought of that! I guess if more features and more 'power' is left in the hands of the consumer, then it will be a potent force. The idea is great.

Thanks a lot Andreas!

Interesting list.
I would mention sites that allow people to create their own social networks for special purposes - the long tail of social networking - such as http://ning.com by former Netscape founder Marc Andresen or the European community platform http://sixgroups.com.
