ACi Coming Up With Low-Priced Laptops For Laptop Lovers In 2008!

Earlier we had blogged about a breakthrough internet device coming out at just $100.00, We have just heard some more news.

Allied Computers International Asia Pvt ltd, also popularly known as ACi, is launching a laptop for just Rs. 15,000/- only in the midst of the coming new year 2008 .

The laptop is set to roll out in May/June 2008. The feature of this laptop will be that it will have a special 7” inch screen and apart from that, it’s processor will be equal to Pentium 4 technology. Another feature of this particular laptop is that it will be very low on voltage and thus, it might reduce your electricity bills marginally or better than that. Compared to the I-Chip internet device which has a combination of Television, Computer, and Phone integrated within it, these laptops do not have these facilities. Also, the price of the internet device is fairly lower (just $100.00) than the prices of these laptops which will be available for Rs. 15,000/-.

Though this laptop is coming cheap compared to other branded laptops, the question stands whether the laptop’s screen will be a good bet for our eyes as a 7” inch screen is too small. Moreover, usability and upgrades will be another thing to look at. User-friendliness is the #1 criteria with respect to laptops such as these and it has to be seen how will these laptops fair on that part. Also, the question stands whether these laptops will be technically sound and durable. Just coming out with a cheaper laptop does not neccessarily mean that the laptop would be at par in performance with laptops of higher prices or even lower in performance and user-friendliness. The game is all about ”wait and watch”. If these laptops are good enough for a normal internet user then it will be good to see the prices of other branded laptops falling down drastically. Therefore, if companies like ACi are successfull in creating higher performance based user friendly laptops for such low prices, allmost all branded laptops will be soon available just as mobile phones are available today everywhere which will help boost the Indian economy drastically.

ACi’s Performance Last Year:

- Sold approximately 11,000 units of laptop in the year 2006.

ACi’s Current Developments:

- Currently developing an LCD television of just 1” inch in size which will costs approximately Rs. 1000/-.
- Plans to start 20 level III (multi-brand chip-level) laptop service centres across the nation by April 2008.

ACi’s Ambitions:

- Researching extensively to develop laptops of Rs. 10,000/- and Rs. 8,000/- in the near future.
- Expects to reach a turnover of Rs. 75 crores this financial year.
- Plans to tap the laptop repair segment optimally by vertically integrating its service centers for allmost all leading brands in the laptop segment.

ACi, as a company, is known well enough in the computer hardware segment and is an old horse in the highly competitive market. Ultimately, the cheaper and better the laptops, the easier it will be for people across India to access the internet. Though most of the hardware accessories are made in countries such as China, Taiwan and other Asia-Pacific countries, we hope that ACi’s research and development progress takes India to the next level of manufacturing quality PC’s and laptops within the country at cheaper costs as this will increase India’s foreign exchange revenues significantly. Not only that, I hope that other companies in the hardware sector do make enough efforts to increase the availability of quality laptops at cheaper prices. After all, beating China in the manufacturing sector is also our ambition !
