Saffron Media will soon launch a magazine for the hospitality business. This will be followed by the launch of the online portal for the same.

The magazine, priced at Rs.50 will be available at subscription basis. The initial print run will be around 10,000 copies. The magazine will be launched into metros first.

The magazine will feature detailed reports on Hotel industry. Things like detailed content on management and operation of hotel business, food and beverages, housekeeping, security, front office, back office and technology and will be covered in depth.

The online portal will carry the initiative a step forward by providing the interactive channel.

Saffron Media, Travel Division editor Sheldon Santwan says,

“The travel, tourism and hospitality industry is growing at a very fast rate with the surging economy. To give an example, there is an expected 30 per cent increase in the number of hotel rooms every year in the country. There really exists a need to address the trade issues in the industry and inform professionals about the latest trends and happenings. Our magazine will also have a special pullout section on the food and beverages industry, as that alone contributes 40 per cent of the turnover of the overall hospitality industry.”

Saffron Media has publications in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, research, food and beverages, travel and hospitality, capital expenditure etc.

A niche market, I would say. Though there are a lot of “travel“ sites, all of them are focused on “travellers”. There is definitely a need for a platform for the hoteliers. If done well, Saffron Media can branch other products based on the same platform. The Travel industry in India is quite big, and Saffron Media definitely has an opportunity here. Specially, if they can really do the hard work and compile data fro all the hotels, including availability and price, they can have a service which they can then offer to other travel portals.

Much depends on how they actually execute the plan, but I, for one, am curious in tracking the progress of this project.
