BSNL has actually been doing a commendable job with their BB plans in India, possibly the most affordable of the lot. I have used BSNL, MTNL, Airtel, Reliance & VSNL (Tata Indicom) services and BSNL is comparable in speed and stability to any of the others, in fact better than my experience with Reliance or Tata Indicom. Their customer service is getting better and better and more responsive all the time (except weekends!) and I am happy with the steady service I have been enjoying.

@Sanjay
Yes, I agree, the service needs to be improved

@Chetan
BSNL has been trying constantly to improve the broadband penetration. Being a government organization, it has to subsidize many of its services, but despite of this, it has managed to clock descent profits year-on-year. Even if some of their services have not been up to date, i would still pin my hopes on BSNL. 100 Mbps sounds too good to ignore.
And I don't think the article suggests anywhere that 100 Mbps = 1kW electricity. So, you'll still need electricity. And relaxe, this is no news. All it says is, you can control them remotely.

@Harshil, Nicholas
Agreed!

LOL. I just can't stop laughing at BSNL :-) Tell them to first provide 512 Kbps uninterrupted broadband and then drwam about 500 Mbps.

Why would one require a 100Mbps + connection to control your light, fans, refrigerators... ? Its news to me if they are driven by broadband bits andn ot Electricity ;-)

What ever they are claiming about is not correct. I have 250 Rs/Month plan from BSNL but speed is not good enough
