British Telecom (BT) is leading a consortium of 22 industry and academic partners such as Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) to launch India-UK Advanced Technology Center (IU-ATC). IU-ATC is the first ever virtual graduate research school between India-UK. A virtual school is an online school.

This school will support collaborative transfer of technology and research between India-UK. According to IU-ATC’s UK academic lead, Professor Gerard Parr, the University of Ulster, said, “The IU-ATC has been set up to establish, for the first time, the support infrastructure and creative sponsorship opportunities that will enable successful collaboration between Britain and India’s academic institutions, government and industry in general. The long-term success of this kind of large scale initiative is dependent upon the support received from industry, and we have had excellent engagement and support from BT, Indian organizations and the British and Indian governments.”

This collaboration will not only improve the academic level in India but will also give an international study exposure to Indian students who are looking to do PhD and Post Doctorate programs. Internet has already become a common tool for conducting research for PhD students and this university would only take that to the next level by running a virtual school online. And as it’s a cross-country tieup it would also facilitate exchange of cultural and business ideas.

  1. JUST QUERYING WHETHER INDIA HAS SCHOOLS WHERE CHILDREN AGE 16 FROM UK CAN CONTINUE THEIR UK AS LEVELS STUDIES FOR 2 YEARS BEFORE STARTING UNIVERSITIES IN INDIA?

  2. Its a very good question. Age has never been a problem when education is concerned. A child from UK can continue his/her UK level study in India before joining the Indian universities. As Indian Universities give admissions on the base of the child’s qualification and not on its age.
