Shemaroo has partnered with WatchIndia.tv to release its movies online. Aftre Rajshri put Vivaah online and Heyy Baby released online, Shemaroo is the next one to enter the increasing spate of Indian production and distribution houses putting their content online. The focus is on the NRI community. At least in the initial phase. Rajshri’s attempt met with a descent success, and there are enough takers fro Heyy Babyy too.

Shemaroo plans to put as many as 15 of its films online. The movies will be available for downloads on Watchindia.tv for $ 4.99.

The Internet has emerged as a powerful distribution medium. Softwares have been distributed over the Internet for years now. Even music companie shave successfully used the Internet for distributing music. Success of iTunes, URGE and other online stores are a testimony to this fact. Movies were the natural next progression. But movies are also more complex by nature. For the simple reason that they are larger. The IP involved is valued much higher. And because of the size, the Internet speed and the device, the nature of online uploading and viewing of movies is much more complex. Recent attempts by Amazon has drawn flak for such an attempt. However, one cannot do away with this completely either
