This is certainly good news for the whole world. The Mountain View, a firm based in California announced that Google intends to launch a ‘renewable energy technology’ which will be cheaper than coal-generated energy and thus, is getting in the business of ‘finding limitless sources of energy’.

Larry Page, one of the founders at Google says:

“We see technologies we think can mature into very capable industries that can generate electricity cheaper than coal and we don’t see people talking about that as much as we would like.”

We have heard that Google is about to spend millions of dollars for hiring engineers and energy experts so as to investigate many other alternative energies such as solar, wind power and geothermal. Google wants to reduce its mounting energy costs which it spends in preserving its data centers and also help the world in tackling climate change as well as reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

Google.org, the philanthropic for-profit subsidiary which was seeded by Google in 2004 with approximately three million shares from Google’s own stock, would be investing in energy startup firms. Google has a goal of producing 1GW of renewable energy, enough power to light up the city of San Francisco, in a way that is more cheaper than coal-generated electricity.

‘RE(LESS)C’ is what Google calls the renewable energy technology project as and it will be involving mathematical symbols to denote renewable energy cheaper than coal. The whole project will be based in Google’s own research and development group. The Mountain View predicts that this project will take only years and not decades.

Meanwhile, industry experts at wallstreet were skeptical about Google’s philanthropic ambitions of finding limitless sources of renewable energy. People at wallstreet seem to think that this project could be a huge distraction to what it does best - organizing the data on the international network and selling ads.

The move by Google is a very good one as the world needs corporates to help tackle the environmental changes and energy conservation issues. There are other corporate companies as well such as HSBC’s ‘yoursolutions‘ who are coming up with ideas that benefit the earth, save the environment, tackle the energy needs and help resolve climate change issues. It is definitely the responsibility of of the corporate world to generate energy in various ways that it does not affect the climate changes badly or exhaust energy resources of the earth. Good Work!!!

  1. Ya… that is a very good step taken up by the google, to start renewable energy projects …. as being renewable most of them can be considered under CDM projects.

as coal and perto’lm and other resources is at the max’m level/rate of its production and with the same rate it will take us not more then 100 years to finish all our resources.

Roughly, if we extrapolate the growth curve for the resources used by mankind…. in next few decades the resources in earth will not be sufficient to met the basic needs of a person.

So, in the present scenario it is our duty to make a phase change from non-renewable to renewable …. may be to develop hybrid systems…. and should think about the sustainable development for the future of our next generation…

Thanks to google for takin such an initiative.
