For those who are unaware of the terms black hat and white hat – a black hat hacker is one who does or is interested in doing bad things. They are the so called bad guys as they make people’s life difficult by breaching the security codes or corrupting the integrity and reliability of systems.

Where as a white hacker are the real hero’s who help users or administrators by making their systems more secure by trying to prevent bad things by black hats.

Terrorist have been the black hat hackers for a long time now. They break into government official sites and steal the vital and confidential information, thus spreading terrorism activities. Regarding this German Government is taking measures to fight black hats. They are designing white hat viruses which can infiltrate and help police detect upcoming attacks, regarding this they are hiring software specialist to develop designs for them.

It is still early days as government are still drafting legislation to permit snooping via the Internet under judicial control.

India similarly has been facing hacking and virus attacks for a long time now. Recently Indian website indiatimes.com had been infected by at least 434 malicious files and many of which were not even detected by antivirus due to which visitors had to suffer.

I wonder when Indian Government would take initiative like German Government. Though it will not be an easy process, as government can possibly face many objections by oppositions and the entire process would require a huge investment. Also chances of it to be successful can minimize if a black hat in disguise as white hat working for government can lend over all vital information to terrorists. But some sort of measure ought to be taken to make internet a friendly and healthy place.
