WPP acquires Quasar Media

We have blogged earlier about international advertising companies looking for acquisition in India. As a follow up to that, there is news that WPP, the second-largest advertising and marketing company in the world is to buy Mumbai-based Quasar Media. Quasar Media is an online digital advertising and media company.

The internet has opened up a new arena with a new set of audience. Companies are increasingly beginning to understand the importance of the Internet as a marketing medium. Viral marketing can best be done on the Internet. Interactivity is another big advantage of the online world. The exposure can be measured. The traditional ad-agencies have for long ignored the online marketing space. This gave startups like Quasar to build their expertise. Now, if the biggies want to generate the expertise in the online space, acquisition remains the only way out. In this context, the deal like the WPP-Quasar one seems like an interesting one.

Update

WPP has picked up 75% stake in Quasar.
