Microsoft, the global software giant, launched the upgraded version of its Windows LIVE Services recently in India. Windows Live Services comes along with a set of online tools and desktop applications which include Windows Mail, Messenger, Toolbar, Events, Photo Gallery, Writer and OneCare Family Safety.

The upgraded version of Windows Live is designed to synchronize all e-mail accounts, blogs, address books, photos, albums and any other kind of online information stored on a user’s mobile phone and computer at one place. This means that the normal internet user can now access all the e-mails such as Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL and others that he/she receive respectively all at once and thus save a lot of time by using the upgraded version of Windows Live. Moreover, the contact addresses within each of their e-mail accounts can be synchronized into one list within their Windows Live accounts.

Windows Live Messenger enables users to chat in text, video and voice modes as well as share files.

Windows Live Photo Gallery enables users to organize and share photos, albums and videos and can also upload them to Soapbox, Flickr or even Windows Live Spaces through MSN Video.

Windows Live Writer enables users to create and publish content to Windows Live Spaces as well as many other blogging services such as Blogger, by using a ‘wysiwyg’ (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) editor.

Jaspreet Bindra, Microsoft India Country Manager - Online Services Business was quoted by media-persons as saying:

“Internet savvy consumers are relying more and more on the web to communicate and share with their friends and family, but they are also becoming increasingly frustrated with how to keep all information with safety and security,”

This move of Microsoft will certainly give it an advantage over other free e-mail services providers. The war between Google and Microsoft is at its all time peak right now as both are competing neck to neck with each other in various segments. It will be very interesting to see whether Google, which is Microsoft’s biggest rival, does in order to counter the move of Microsoft. Maybe, we would be hearing some good news of Google doing the same with its Email, Messenger, Toolbar and other services.
