Hindi On The Rise - Another Portal Thatshindi.com launched!
Email It!
Internet is a space which surely suffers from the disease of heard mentality. If one initiates its very possible that ten will follow and then it will become hundred. We had recently blogged about Josh18 the hindi portal for the Youth launched by Web 18. Now its seems oneindia which actually is known for having many vernacular languages enabled on its portal has gone ahead and launched thatshindi an exclusive hindi only portal.
Thatshindi isnt very different from what one india offers just that its offers it in hindi. It has the same news, current affairs, Hollywood, Bollywood, videos, picture galleries, astrology, art and culture. I think this strategy of building web properties in vernacular languages is good but i dont see just regional languages or just hindi being a great enough USP as you can see we already of two hindi portals in Josh18 and Thatshindi now.
What will be important is how they can attract the hindi ‘reading’ audience and actually build a USP for which people visit the site! A portal model which provides information is pretty passe to me. It needs to be more interactive and i guess with time these players will look at adding more interactivity.

They have been there as “OneIndia” so its just another name. And like BlogAdda they also think that stealing is the best way to inorganically add content, the blog section http://blogs.oneindia.in/87/1/1/Hindi.html is nothing but Hindi blogs hosted at Blogger and Wordpress shown in Frame pages.
http://blogs.oneindia.in is an Indian blogs directory. I don’t think we have claimed anywhere that we are hosting those blogs on oneindia.in.
Mahesh,
Thanks for the clarification.
You have neither mentioned that it’s a Blog directory.
May I ask why the site is showing blogs & individual posts within frames? (example: http://blogs.oneindia.in/18728/87/2/showblog.php), Aren’t you guys misusing the Blog content without getting permission of the Blogger? Why are the post permalinks changed to oneindia URLs (which when clicked don’t take reader to the Blog post directly but open the blog within a frame page, example: http://blogs.oneindia.in/179437/87/1/showblog.php).
Are you informing the user anywhere that the blog is not hosted by you and that you are simply linking? Most gullible readers won’t realize this and you probably know that.
I would also like to know how you are sourcing your news. Yesterday I verified (see my Hindi blog post http://nuktachini.debashish.com/280) that many news items are also published on Jagran website as well. Are you syndicating the content with their permission?
Thanks,
Debashish
It’s an old wine in new bottle. But i have recentaly visited a site in hindi http://www.raviwar.com
it’s mind blowing !
Rajni
Hi Debashish,
aggregating blogs like this and giving a platform for users to write about the blog and vote for the blog is a new concept in the internet which is not so popular in Inida.
and
An internet user can identify that oneindia blogs links are not in oneindia’s server since the page appears with a frame on the left. The user can close, the frame on the left, by clicking on the top X icon. then the url will be the permalink. Pl note that oneindia is not putting any advt in their frame and trying to monitise the bloggers content.
Oneindia is just giving an opportunity for the users to comment about one blog which is good for the blog. Since the blog is listed in a different url, there is greater possibility of listing in the search engines which will increase the page views of that particular blog.
ABOUT THE COPY IN JAGRAN
Oneindia hindi might be taking content from news services like PTI Bhasha, UNI Vartha or ANI Hindi service. They give their news to different media companies. these are Hindi Agencies in India, Ofcource these agencies have English version too which appears in hundreads of sites.
Hari
Thanks for the reply Hari. But you still evaded the basic question: Have Oneindia taken permission from the Bloggers before listing them in your “directory”? Were the sites voluntarily submitted to you? (I am sure not) You may not be monetizing their content now, but thats “now”.
Very poor argument indeed. BTW, Have you informed about this “pious” intention to the concerned bloggers?
About news, I had referred to a “Hindi” news items not English news, that appeared in Jagran and the same news appeared at your site with just the title changed. Must tell you that Dinesh from OneIndia Hindi team has acknowledged on my Hindi Blog that in the past your team had “inadvertently” copied news from Google News.
Please note that I have no axe to grind here. I just wish that websites behave responsibly in the changing web-world instead of resorting to gimmicks to grow inorganically.
Please see the answers for your doubt.
Q - Have Oneindia taken permission from the Bloggers before listing them in your “directory”?
A - When ever one blog is added in to oneblogs a mail is sent to the blogger. If he asks us to delete we promptly do that.
Q - Were the sites voluntarily submitted to you?
A - Many of the blogs are submitted by the bloggers itself.
Q - Have you informed about this “pious” intention to the concerned bloggers?
A - No, we are not intimating the search visibility part since this is the rule of the game. No body complains when a blog is listed and get visibility in google blogsearch or in some other search engine. This is also some thing like that.
About your charge regarding copying content ..
your comment : About news, I had referred to a “Hindi” news items not English news, that appeared in Jagran and the same news appeared at your site with just the title changed”
Yes I too mentioned about Hindi news. That is why i mentioned lime ‘ taking content from news services like - PTI Bhasha, UNI Vartha or ANI Hindi service.’ - these are Hindi news services from PTI, UNI and ANI.
The story what you are mentioning in your blog [ http://thatshindi.oneindia.in/news/2007/11/14/2007111407301900.html ]
is a UNI Vartha [UNI's Hindi news service, from which you can get Hindi News] News. So naturally it will be in many other sites.
Hari
Thanks for clarifying about News on OneIndia being syndicated from various sources.
Thanks for accepting that not “all” blogs were user submitted and that the rest have been added using a bot. And I can say that for sure because you have neither taken any permission nor informed me by email before adding my Hindi blog to your site.
I am surprised by this unapologetic attitude of Oneindia. Please accept the fact that you are “misusing” the blog content by showing them as your site-content. You have taken my permission before enlisting my blog at your site and I am complaining. There would be several such persons. Your intention in changing the permalink of the Posts and not showing original Blog URL is not to help the site gain prominence on search engines but is simply that you don’t want the site owner to know. Most of us check our referrer logs and I would have known if you had used original post links/site URL on your site (I noticed today that One India has now added the Blog URL as “Close” button/links on the Frame page).
If you really want to be a credible organization instead of justifying your wrong deeds you should immediately remove all such content that has not been submitted by the users directly or have been used by permission. Please remove my Blog listing immediately from your site.
In my previous comment the sentence “You have taken my permission before enlisting my blog” should be “You have not taken my permission before enlisting my blog”.
Why don’t you file a DMCA Complaint ?
