Yahoo! Ties Up With BSNL, BPL Mobile And Others For OneSearch On Mobiles!
The trend of portals such as Yahoo!, Google, MSN and AOL going mobile is taking mobile users with awe. Certainly, the war of the internet giants is getting warmer to capture the mobile search market. The mobile market in Asia is huge and certainly the giants are making efforts to prepare for the big competition.
Just recently, Yahoo! has tied up with numerous telecom operators from Asia to offer its OneSearch technology on mobile phones to end users. The whole pack of telecom operators from India includes Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), BPL Mobile Limited and others such as Aircel Limited. There are others too in the fray from Asia such as DiGi Telecommunications, PT Hutchinson CP Telecom, PT Excelcomindo Pratama, PCCW Mobile, PT Indosat, and Starhub.
David Ko , VP and GM,- Yahoo! Connected Life says:
“Yahoo!’s new partnership with BSNL, BPL and Aircel furthers our leadership in mobile and demonstrates our commitment to working to enhance the mobile Internet experience by delivering relevant information and instant answers to customers on their mobile devices,”
Meanwhile Gopal Das, Director - BSNL was quoted as saying:
“BSNL is pleased to partner with Yahoo! in bringing to its subscribers a mobile internet experience with Yahoo! oneSearch. We look at this as the start of a deepening relationship in the months to come,”
This partnership of Yahoo! and BSNL will enable BSNL subscribers to use Yahoo! services such as Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger. Yahoo! wants to improve the mobile user’s search experience as well as extend the global reach of its OneSearch technology across the globe. Yahoo! will surely be looking to offer mobile search services on par with the quality and efficiency it offers on the web. Yahoo! OneSearch is available in 20 countries.
Meanwhile, Yahoo mentions the following on its Yahoo! OneSearch website:
Get better results – not just web links
Finally, mobile search that works! Optimized results with one click.
Find practically anything
Sport scores, flight infonew, movie times, restaurants, directions, and more.
Your way to the entire Web
One click to your favorite websites.
Yahoo! has openly given a comparison of its mobile search technology and challenged google’s mobile search technology by putting up a pdf file that contains clear comparisons of Google and Yahoo! search results on certain keywords or terms. It will be very interesting to see what Google, biggest rival of Yahoo!, does with regards to mobile search technology in order to beat its best known competitor at what it is best known worldwide.
Though the war of the internet giants is going to be very tough, it is still a wait-and-watch game as these companies are still in the development and implementation stage of mobile search technology and mobile advertising. Internet on mobile has not yet taken off and there needs to be a lot of work done to improve internet connectivity on mobile phones.
