It is an interesting report and an insight how US companies are using social media marketing. Though the same hasn’t really picked up that much in India but our own company WATConsult has signed up quite a few MNC clients for Social Media Marketing and I believe this is just the tip of the iceberg in India. I feel Social Media Marketing (SMM) and Social Media Optimization (SMO) are the next step in Search Engine Marketing (SEM)  and Search engine optimization (SEO) in the era of Web 2.0. Whereas SEM and SEO is advertising/optimizing the website on/for search engine software i.e. crawlers, the SMM and SMO are creating one to many conversations and optimizing the website for the human readers.
