Google Offering $10 Million To Mobile Application Developers
Google bowls a googly to its competitors. Google is giving away prizes worth $10 millions to people who can come up with an innovative software for the company’s upcoming cell phone operating system.
By taking this initiative, google has made it clear that it is interested in capturing the wider range of market by wiping off the competition. The company will develop free cell phone software which will make cell phone users life much easy for surfing the web on mobile devices. Moreover it will also give google more opportunities to sell ads and services.
A panel of judges as a part of the Android Developer Challenge will select 50 winners. Each winner will get US $25,000 and be eligible for ten awards of US $100,000 and another ten US $275,000 awards.
The Big Names like Motorola Inc, Samsung Electronics Co, HTC and LG Electronics Inc have also participated into the race by agreeing to use Android in some of their phones. Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said that he eventually hopes the software will be integrated into thousands of different devices. Besides that twenty-nine other companies have also signed on as members of the alliance.
Android would certainly face competition from mobile operating systems made by Microsoft Corp, Palm Inc, Research In Motion Ltd, and Symbian, which is owned by Nokia Corp and several other major phone makers.
We do expect some fire works from the google competitors in near future by coming up with some new creative and innovative ideas. For now google plan seems to be a good marketing strategy.
