Making Full Movie Streaming/Downloads Available Online.. A Growing Trend?

Yashraj Films one of the biggest Movie Production Houses in India have announced a tie up with watchindia.tv and tinselvision by which they would be making available full movie downloads of movies made under the Yash Raj banner.
Tinselvision will cater to the US market and will charge a pay-per-view fee from $4.99 (for the classics) to $7.99 (for the most recent releases) to viewers across the world (except India). Viewers will be able to download a particular movie and watch it once (Not keep it forever) But Going forward movies will also be made available on a download-to-own which I assume will be charged higher.
Watchindia.tv on the other hand already has movies like Kabhi Kabhie, Kaala Patthar, Chandni, Hum Tum, Dhoom, Veer-Zaara, Bunty aur Babli and Dhoom:2, among others available for download. YashRaj movie are known to have a good shelf life and would surely be something NRI’s would love to watch.Hence as far as new releases are concerned they would be put online within 3 months of a theatrical release.
YashRaj Films is not only looking at the Indians settled abroad but is also upbeat on the growing local internet savvy audience and hence has also entered into an agreement with VSNL to stream through VSNL’s broadband portal www.tataindicombroadband.in in a pay-per-view format.
Recently we had blogged about Hey Babyy being available online for download and also about how Rajshri was taking the pay per view model very seriously. It seems like more and more production houses would jump on to this movie streaming and downloading bandwagon as time goes on. This is because with the internet becoming faster and consumers becoming used to an on demand culture its not difficult to fathom a growing trend towards users downloading and even paying for quality movies even though piracy may continue to exist.
