Gaming portals are betting big on prepaid cards. With over 85% of India’s mobile-phone-population using prepaid connection, the strategy seems to work. Prepaid cards have been instrumental in the growth of telecom majors. Economic Times reports all three major online gaming websites, Zapak, Indiagames and Games2Win are going to introduce the prepaid mobile cards. Zapak has tied up with Shoppers’ Stop, Future Group and Lifestyle. Hungama Mobile has the coffee cafe chain, Cafe Coffee Day distributing its cards. Zapak plans to ser up 5000 outlests by the year-end.

 

Indiagames is planning to set up its own retail shops IG Shops. IG shops will also sell latest gizmos besides gaming cards.

 

Market research has shown that online games are a hit among young people. India has just 21crores of online gaming revenues. Thus there is a lot of potential for improvement. With the per person indispensable income increasing steadily, the people are ready more than ever to spend on leisure and entertainment. Prepaid cards will offer a good option to the gamers who are generally teenagers and young adults who do not usually own a credit card. Once the initial word is out, the cards can work well. Of course, with reliance in the game, expect a lot of advertising too.
