Ebay Opens Up New Revenue Stream
![]()
eBay unarguably the best online shopping and auction portal has opened up their revenue stream by allowing advertisers to display their ads on the website.
Ideally the primary revenue generator has been the commissions which eBay receives on sales. Now by allowing advertisers to put their ads on the portals the have opened up a completely new platform for generating revenue. Although the move may be very traditional in nature but as long as the revenues are coming in I don’t think they will really complain.
eBay attracts around 2.5million unique visitors per month and about 30million page views per month so I am sure any advertiser would be more than willing to insert their ads on such a popular portal. They have kept competition in mind and will not allow any ads from direct competitors like other online shopping portals. Companies like Nokia, Motorola, Dell, Reliance Communications and John Players are have already started advertising on the portal.
One thing to keep in mind…
Advertisers will be interested because of the traffic that eBay generates, according to me the advertisers are not providing any value to the website, instead they are leveraging the traffic of eBay. that’s good as a advertiser, but eBay should understand that in this new age of the internet, advertisers should in some way compliment the website (eBay for eg). money shouldn’t be the only driving factor for website owners to provide their important space, and with todays internet providing so many features & Options I am sure the opportunities are limitless.
