Facebook Now On BlackBerry!

While mobility being the Next Gen appeal for social networking, firms like Helio are Offering MySpace on their cell phones. BlackBerry being not left out in the race, has introduced Facebook web application for mobile phones.
Mike Lazaridis, founder of RIM.com, joined Dustin Moskovitz, co-founder of Facebook, to formally demonstrated Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones at the CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment show in San Francisco. The two companies had been secretly working on the project from past six months.
The push technology proves a real time social networking experience away from the desktop. A BlackBerry user can take pictures without opening the application and can send it to their friends instead of e-mailing or sending the photo by MMS, one can go directly to his/her Facebook mobile page, add captions and even tag the photo. Then with the click of a single button, the picture gets uploaded and easily accessible to everyone.
Users of BlackBerry/Facebook can be immediately notified about an invite from a friend or a picture being updated. The users can use unique tones for their alerts to know who just messaged or tagged them.
These features’s proves handy and would surely increase the ongoing demand for facebook users and increasing in the number of sales for Blackberry devices too.
When are Indian mobile service providers going to take this seriously? GPRS service being too high for all the users and not being accessible every where, why not come up with a solution like accessing scraps on orkut through sms. Sms being cheap and more user friendly and covering a much larger audience.

I don’t know how many sales BB will add because of the App but I think it is a great step in the right direction.
