Bye Bye Piracy

As India crossed the mark of 200 million cell phone subscription, music piracy is on a roll. Around 25 – 30 % of cell phones in the market are capable of music and video transfers.
The mobile music market serving products like monophonic and polyphonic tunes, true tones, sing tones, and full song mobile music and video downloads is estimated around Rs.400 crore.
Illegal music downloads on cell phones also known as mobile chip piracy is an easy process which can be copied from any memory devices like a computer hard disk, usb drive or any mobile device with stored music etc.
Being a global phenomenon, IMI (Indian Music Industry) for the first time is taking measures to stop it before it ruins the revenue of Indian music companies like it has done for software, gaming and movie industries.
As a measure of preventing music piracy IMI carried out 100-120 raids.
Moreover, IMI is carrying out special programs for Police Officials to help them to understand in a better manner how the entire racket is being carried on.
Most of the local dealers give lead music as value addition service. It will be much better if music companies work with them and license this music. It may prove little useful in stopping piracy.
How about if IMI teams up with cell phone manufacturers and comes out with an inbuilt chip in cell phones which directly prevents copyrighted music to download in an illegal manner? That’s a thought which I leave for you to answer.
