Pix and Vids - Now to a village near you?

Villages don’t have multiplexes. Villages don’t have McDonalds. And villages also don’t have uninterrupted internet access. And no, initiatives by government do NOT count. Generally speaking, to a large part of our 1.1 billion populations, the significance of “mouse” still persists as the vehicle of a revered God. How will you ever get them to see that pic of their New York born grand child? Enter 16frames. It lets you upload digital photos, have them printed and delivered anywhere India. The service has a potential in India. For sure. But there have been services like this before too. Our earlier article discussed various photo-sharing and printing services. But none of them has made it big so far. Possibly a lack of clear business model can be the reason. When more than 750 million Indians are at target, the opportunity definitely is big. Advertising can be one source, if tapped carefully. Pay per print can also work, but people have a tendency to have “freebies” on the internet. Although with the NRI market in mind this does not seem like a deterrent.

16frames also have service for converting your video into VCD and DVD. Can work. And can work very well. As I said , the business aspect of this needs to be taken care of.
The service is priced at $0.12. for prints and $ 12.99 for videos.
Now videos can be a nice and interesting addition to the service. DVD players are omnipresent. Yes, even in rural India. Watching the videos of the first day at school for their grandson can actually be heart-warming experience. This seems like a good value-addition. But I am not convinced about the pricing of the service. $ 13 for something like this seems too much. I think a little tweaking with the pricing can do the trick for 16frames.com.
Just a small glitch. While using their website, it crashed once. I hope the creators are reading this post and debug the site before many others find this.
