Onmobile To Launch Mobile Ad Network
Onmobile a popular Indian Vas company has rolled out its mobile ad network. They are certainly providing a unique method of mobile advertising, rather than the conventional method of having advertisements placed on searches, onmobile has taken the “Voice” route.
How does/will it work?
Callers will get to hear advertisements when they call, just like how you are used to hearing caller tunes, in the same manner there will be advertisements.
Going ahead they plan to offer more interactivity by allowing users directly connect with the call center while listening to the ad.
In phase two, which will roll out in six months, onmobile plans to provide a web interface just like Google where any local merchant can put up an ad. This is all the info I was able to get from a advertisers perspective.
Whats in it for the Users?
“One of the programmes we are rolling out is to give people some incentive like free SMS or ringtones in order to allow that tune to be replaced with an ad, which will match the calling party’s profile,” said Rao. co-founder and CEO of OnMobile.
Conclusion –
My concern here is that I really doubt that people would like to share their space with the advertiser, many people wouldn’t want to be associated with ads. I came across this article which said “Caller tunes are as much a psychological marker of people’s personality as their choice of clothes or shoes is”, therefore by providing ads on caller tunes you may be altering ones personality which may not be acceptable by many.
I still feel thats its a fantastic idea ans am sure we can expect good traction & takers initially, but again i doubt many people would like to promote brands on their exclusive personal space. I want to know your thoughts!! Would you give your space for advertising for free caller tunes or sms?

i really don’t think the concept of listening to advertisements when you are calling someone is a good idea to promote brands. am not saying it would be interesting, but will it really be effective in capturing the mind share of the customer?
