Im sure if you are an active reader then you must have heard the buzz about naukri.com looking at launching an education portal.  Also recently there was speculation that the portal might be called Shiksha.com. In English ‘Shiksha’ stands for education so its right in line with the Naukri lineage which means jobs in english.

Clearing the buzz created by a bunch of blogs COO Naukri.com Hitesh Oberoi has said that yes they are looking to launch an education portal but its atleast 6 months away also He  said that the portal may or may not be called shiksha.com as they have booked many domain names.

He also was quoted in an interview with agencyfaqs saying “The education portal is not going to be an e-learning or content-based site; instead, it will have a listing of educational institutes offering details of short-term, long-term and professional courses in India and abroad. It will be targeted at everyone above 10th standard who wants to search for different courses offered by educational institutes.”

All in all the objective looks like an integration with naukri.com so that student can first be given information on institutes and courses (which means sourcing such information from colleges) and then their placements from these courses can be taken care by naukri.com a completion of the value chain.

  1. Shiksha is a hindi word… a typo in line 3 :). We need to see how different this initiative from Nuakri will be considering that Yahoo already had something similar in the form of Yahoo Eductaion and didnt seem to take of well. There are few more sites as well that provide a wide list of colleges including Sulekha.com
