Cricinfo launches Live Cricket Mobicast!

The mobile phone user base in India has grown to 250 million as of now with more than 6-7 million subscribers adding each month! Such a huge audience on their mobile phones cannot be ignored and probably thats the reason that crickets leading site Cricinfo has launched a ‘Cricinfo mobicast‘ which is a live, ball-by-ball update and scorecard service for Internet/GPRS enabled mobile phones.

live cricket on mobilesCricinfo is providing this free service in association with Plusmo (a US-based venture) and can be viewed by typing the URL ‘http://ci.plusmo.com’ into the mobile phone’s WAP browser.

Cricinfo had mentioned that after ESPN takeover it would be looking at leveraging ESPN’s exclusive video content across platforms like the web and mobile. Though cricinfo has announced  its intention to integrate live streaming of cricket videos to its website it seems that they have taken the mobile initiative first. It will be interesting to see how the numbers add up to this service (as its gprs based). But according to me it should do well as both high end phones and gprs connectivity and ofcourse India’s twenty20 mania is on the rise.
