Internet has been around in India for over a decade now and according to a recent report by IMRB and I-cube in which it surveyed 30 cities and towns covering 65,000 people, Internet has grown faster in smaller cities and towns rather than metros.

According to the report overall the Internet usage in India has grown more than 11 times over the last seven years. But the major growth has come from smaller cities and towns where the number of users has risen by a whopping 69 times and 33 times!

Though internet penetration is still low in India the point of access of internet is becoming very important as more public points of access like cyber cafe’s, school’s and colleges means more penetration. This was also one of the findings of the research which stated that the highest growth came from schools and college access which had grown over 22 times in the last 8 years followed by home access (which is a great sign). But even after this rise Cybercafe’s were the leader as the most preferred access point with more than 5.7 million of the overall internet access population accessing internet from cybercafe’s.
