The web18 network of websites seem to be growing day by day! (see screenshot at end of the post) It seems every month they seem to have a launch which is around the corner. So if earlier today we covered a news on buzz18 now they have gone ahead and launched another web property and this time they have decided to go language centric!

josh18Web18 has launched Josh18.com a hindi portal “catering exclusively to the Indian youth providing them a platform to express and place themselves in the global arena as per this release. (Youth?? and hindi portal??) The portal will provide current events update, news, fashion, technology and stock tips as well. For hindi literature enthusiasts there is “Kitaabein” which captures the essence of published books and also provides a platform for readers to review the latest released books.

Josh18.com also provides a blogging platform in “Garam Chai” which is segregated into Hum Kaun Hai? (Retrospective blogging), Bahas (Debates on current issues), Aapki Baat (Express Yourself Blogging), Mitra Mandali (Friends Group) and Global Chai (International topics blog).

Though content in hindi is a necessity for the internet to grow i feel the number of properties web18 seems to be launching day in and day out it seems they are more bullish on internet than any other company around. With respect to Josh18 i think only time will tell how a hindi only portal works out as most large portals today have hindi versions. Though josh18 would leverage the network18’s video content in hindi i.e. their channels like cnbc awaaz which have hindi news.

Youth??? and Hindi Portal????

  8. @नंदिता - Speaking hindi is one thing while reading hindi is another. I also do know about orkut starting hindi scraps. But my point is an entire portal in hindi is different from a feature of hindi scraps. Even in small towns hindi might be spoken more but im not sure how many youths read a hindi newspaper as compared to an english one. I might be wrong but yet again this is my estimated guess from the way i see things going in India in the next 5 years.

  9. It is a very good site for young people

  10. Good point Rajiv tht youths prefer reading english then Hindi but one of the reasons behind for the Majority is that they are not perfect in English n to improve on there English skills they read English.
