Saturday Startups – Part Two – – Now Buy Tomatoes Online!

E-commerce is seeing a steep rise according to Assocham (Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India). Two metros (Delhi and Mumbai) are driving this growth with each contributing 24% and 20% of the E-sales log on share respectively! It’s very surprising that Bangalore being the IT Hub of the country contributes a very meager 6%. Also the report which we covered out here forecasts that ecommerce will cross 9000 crores by Mar ’08.

Though ecommerce is rising grocery shopping is a unique space that hasn’t seen much action online. There have been many online shopping portals which sell consumer durables like and and others but have no menu for grocery shopping online. One may argue why would people shop groceries online? I think why not? I mean stuff like canned foods and eve perishables can be bough online! After all tomatoes will look and taste like tamotoes right? Though the quality concious would still want to touch and smell stuff like tomatoes before buying them but nevertheless there will be those who just buy it off online.. (think bachelors and working couples!)

storrz.comSo catering to this very need is a new startup on the rise which is a product of JustOnDemand Technologies Pvt. Ltd, a firm based in Bangalore and claims to be the first Online Shopping Portal in India that allows customers to shop for groceries online and which provides customers with the option of swiping their credit/debit cards at the time of delivery. (Quite a smart service for perishable goods as i would want to see the quality of tomatoes im buying). And besides for credit card one can also use SodexHo Meal Passes. is currently limited to bangalore only when it comes to perishable goods but provides 24 hour delivery across the country for other products. It has tied up with Major Retailers and OEM Brands like Namdharis Fresh, MTR, Dr Morepen, Jus’Trufs, Mars, Pedigree, Tilia, The Art Of Living, Indus Tree Crafts etc.

On the whole the site looks promising with very cool eye candy looks and layout. Also besides for the layout they have a window shopping feature which is great feature for someone who wants to have mall like shopping experience (i.e. shopping trolley experience) online because this feature lets you drag and drop products into a basket. To me storrz looks really promising though real customer feedback would be much more important so if any of your order through Storrz then do post your feedback in the comments.

It’s encouraging to see that more e-commerce is happening in India and niche sites are emerging. may like to add these sites as well on its comparison shopping site. Good luck Storrz!

interesting concept..though a lot depends on how well users accept buying tomatoes online! there’s a new site i came across, which is also based on social shopping, called interesting look and feel, though they lack ecommerce for now. but worth a look for sure.
