Earlier we had blogged about the naukri revamp and had got some criticism as well. But this time naukri has done what it does best i.e providing resume databases! Only this time it has created (more like segregated) a database exclusively for scheduled castes (SCs), scheduled tribes (STs), other backward classes (OBCs) and women. Naukri s planning to offer its clients a search option through which they can hire candidates based on whether they belong to the above mentioned castes.

Currently the Naukri has over 130,000 OBCs, 38,000 SCs and STs, 760,000 women, and 8,000 physically challenged job seekers resumes on the job portal.

Sanjeev Bikchandani, CEO of Naukri.com said “The purpose of gathering these data is to support clients’ efforts in affirmative action hiring, should a company want to boost its strength in any of these categories,”

Naukri has still not launched this service but plans to do so when the numbers are higher with regards to the database.

I feelNaukri also plan to look at other community based niches in the jobs market. I have seen “Gujrati Jains” being very particular about hiring from their caste.  I also see a possibility in exploiting niches like temp jobs and freelancing space if the right tools are provided to the employer and the right marketing is done. After all naukri would have the largest database for any kind of jobseeker but niches where hiring is very difficult could be a good business bet.
