Its ‘Acquisitions Time’ in the Digital Advertising Space.
The online and mobile advertising is growing very rapidly and those individual specialist agencies which have been evangelists for this space for quite long now might just see takeover interests from bigger media companies. And i guess its about time larger media firms started taking the online and mobile space seriously and reconfirming this trend the Paris-based Publicis Groupe which recently acquired Delhi-based Capital advertising is now on the lookout for a digital agency.
Publicis Worldwide COO Richard Pinder was in India last week and he had this to say, “Our next acquisition has to be in the digital space since India is among the top 10 markets.”
There is no word on which agencies are in the run to be acquired. I wouldn’t want to speculate too much myself but a list of independent digital agencies (on top of my mind) are as follows : Interactive Avenues which was formed after senior management left Mediaturf was recently funded by Sequoia giving it some money muscle power. Also Quasar Media which is owned by SmileStudio which also owns Tyroo which was invested in by Yahoo.com. Besides for the above two agencies the other notable ones are WebChutney. BCWebwise and Id8labs. There could be others as well which may not have featured here but might be in the runnng. If you know any such agency please add to the list and comment.
On the whole this move by Publicis could be followed by other traditional media companies in a bid to ride the wave of the digital advertising boom.
