Access your computer from any mobile or computer for Free!

I recently came across this website called SoonR.com through which you can access your computer from your cell phone. In their words “SoonR keeps you securely connected to your computer files so you’re free to go mobile”. You can access your computer from anywhere in the world by just using your web-enabled phone and also view/share your files from your computer very easily.

SoonR Desktop where your phone can search, view, share and forward files from any PC.

SoonR Organizer which turns your simple phone into a smartphone. You can access Outlook or Mac Mail from your mobile phone, respond to emails and organize your tasks, meetings and appointments.

SoonR Talk which lets you use Skype from your mobile phone! Your computer will act as a medium to call and one doesn’t even need to install any software on their phone.

With such a host of features, I would say that SoonR has really done a wonderful job. Now let us see how does it all work.

How does it work?

First register yourself with SoonR.com. Once you are registered, you can download and install a small application on your computer which runs in the background as a service. During the installation, you can specify what folders or computer drives you want to make available for remote access. By default, your "My Document" folder is available for remote access.

Now you can go to any other computer or use your mobile (GPRS enabled) and login to your SoonR.com account. Once you are logged in, you will see "Desktop" and "Organizer" option as well Google Desktop Search box. Clicking on the Desktop link will give you an access to your "My Documents" folder (also to your drives if you made those available for access).

Some points to note:

You can use your Outlook/mac email account to receive/send email messages as well as share your documents with your friends via email.

One good thing is that, you can have upto 100MB of your files stored for "Any time" access. So you can keep your important files(upto 100MB of size), and put them in one folder under My Documents and make it available from anywhere even if your computer is turned off.

As of now, SoonR is providing all these features free of cost. They will be launching some premium services very soon and will charge for that.

Ups:

Lots of great features and functionality.

Downs :

With the GPRS penetration in India being too low and the rates being too high, I am not sure how well this service will do over here.

If this service becomes affordable, it might become very popular over a period of time. This service is especially beneficial to professionals and businessmen.

I’ll very soon post details regarding the origin of this website and how well it is taking off.

Till then, Enjoy!
