Startups Saturday! - Its all about Startups!
Email It!
Well Offlate there have been so many new startups springing up and so many updates on the startup front in India that its been difficult to keep up with the action! We have tried our best with posts like this, this and this in the last week but i finally ive found a better way! Those startups which we miss out covering withing the week would be covered in the Saturday Startups! - Its all about Startups!
So here we go with the announcement of the newest startups on the block and also updates & news of growing startups..
Interviewup.com - A site which looks to ask and answer the job/career interview questions. Just came to know about this site from its review on startupdunia. Currently this site is in closed beta and one needs to submit ones email id to get to use the site. This site is a combination of Digg.com (Social voting & Sharing) + Yahoo answers (question & answers) for Interviews and career related questions i.e. Question and answers with voting enabled on them so that the best questions can be voted higher. Also the answers can be collaboratively edited by users like a wiki i.e. registered users can edit each other answers if they dont agree or have a better answer. The best part is the UI of the site which is eye candy (check it out here and here) and one of the best i have seen. This site comes in direct competition with asknaukri.com which is a part of the naukri.com group which is catering to the career related queries space as well bu has experts on board for answering. The issue with UGC on interview questions answering is people who have silly answers to intelligent questions and dumb questions itself as well the challenge would be to get a critical mass large enough so that the co-editing feature of answers really kicks in place and gives real value to users.
Kyakare.com - A simple yet effective events listing site that is available across Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata. This site is a collaborative events listing and sharing site where anybody can add events for free across categories like Art, Theatre, Dance, Drama, Music, Courses, Eating out, Health, TV, Radio Workshops, Seminars, Movies, Discounts, Deals and many more categories. We had earlier covered SEraja.com which is on the same lines and also has video and pictures capability to showcase events. What works for Kyakare is its simplicity of posting events and also its simple layout. Another such similar site is eventsinindia.com. According to me i see a difficult task in making such a site a destination alternatively i feel if they were to create event widgets and distribute their content across publishers which would work better.
Hareepa!com - A people search engine thats been using rickshaw walla’s to market their site. Again under closed beta that allows Indian users to connect with like minded people through matching up similarities of their profile with the profiles of other users. The site takes an interesting approach where it search box connects me to people according to caste i.e. gujrati, sindhi, punjabi etc something very centric to India and it also has fields on work, eating habits and hobbies. See screenshot below to understand it better.
I think this is an interesting approach to a people search engine. How the users take to it will depend on how the user experience builds with the rise in users but nice start nevertheless.
Now lets move on to news updates from startups..
Goyaar.com launches social search engine - Goyaar.com has made an attempt at mashing social sharing features with their social network. We had written about Goyaar.com earlier as well and now its has added features that allow users to users to search and blogs, audio podcasts, video, music, events, groups, bookmarks, and local business reviews and recommendations with their friends. Though goyaar has got quite a lot of features there im not sure whether there is much traction happening on the site. What are features without users anyway..
Picsquare allows users to import Yahoo Photos - We had earlier written about picquare allowing its users to print their Flickr pictures and now they have gone ahead and invited users of Yahoo photos which is closing for Indian users on October 18, 2007. Nice and smart move by Picquare keeping in mind that besides for printing of pictures they do provide unlimited free storage space as well.
Thats it for this Saturday! Phew.. that took some time gettiing done! If we might have missed ou on ur startup then you can mail us on info(at)watblog(dot)com Cheers!
