zapakZapak Plans to go global?

Zapak.com which recently won the award for excellent work in ‘Branding’ at the Asia Brand Congress against nominees like google and naukri.com held in Mumbai on the 26th & 27th of this month has unvieled plans to go global by venturing into markets like China and Europe by launching gaming portals for those markets.

Zapak COO Talks on Global Plans

Zapak COO Rohit Sharma said "We are launching a European site and a Chinese site and are looking to be a global brand very soon. We may also invest in some studios because software creation and ownership are key in gaming"

Zapak Revamps site again..

Zapak had revamped its site once after its first revamp in April this year and had changed its homepage from a pure gaming centric homepage to more like a portal i.e. it had a list of all the services like zapakmail, zapak tv etc. Now zapak has revamped the site once again and gone back to its earlier strategy of positioning itself as a gaming portal (finally some good brand positioning sense prevails!) and changed the look of its homepage. For those who want to compare both the looks can click here for the gaming centric home page and here for the portal type of look.

Its a Money Game after all..

Till now zapak was sourcing games from gaming studios abroad but now Zapak also plans to hire game developers from markets like US and Korea, and has kept aside $5 million to $10 million for the same. As we had mentioned earlier Zapak plans to pump in over 100M$ in the online gaming business across portals, cafe’s which they plan to increase to a number of 200 cafe’s by 2008 end. With respect to making money rather than spending it zapak has gone the game sponsorship way and has till now roped in an impressive number of advertisers in Cadburys, Maruti, Parle-G, Thums Up and Adidas some of which we have blogged about here. No numbers on how much revenue they do or how close they are to break even but atleast they have a revenue model in place :)

Zapak is pumping in money in the hope that online gaming market in India does touch 200M$ by 2010 as forecasted by “Online Games Market in India” report by Pearl Research. Though the market for online gaming in India till recently was only pegged at 21 crores but lets hope for zapak’s sake the market does touch 200M$.
