One Laila Many Majnu’s! Asklaila raises 10M$ second round of Funding from 3 VC’s!

We had covered the launch of AskLaila and how it featured against the other local search players. So if the laila got her first majnu (For those who aren’t indian laila and majnu can be classified as the indian counterparts of juliet and romeo.) in Matrix Partners the second, and third majnus have come in the form of Lightspeed Venture Partners and SVB India Capital Partners along with the earlier Matrix Partners cummulatively investing another 10Million $ in

According to Shriram Adukoorie, co-founder, Four Interactive. "The additional capital will help us expand faster into more cities.” The company will launch services in Mumbai by end-October, and expand into New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad in the next 10 months."

We had covered googles entry into the local search arena as well and with asklaila getting funded it creates three heavily funded players in guruji, justdial and asklaila (we have written about them earlier here, here, here and here) trying to conquer the local search market and there are a bunch of promising startups like burrp, onyomo and tolmolbol  (we have covered them here, here and here) along with the world search giant google with google local search.

One can only say that this local search market is getting very competitive with both VC money and large players like google getting into it. Only time will tell how things do for local search for now if i was one of the startup founders id be preparing myself for a hard fought battle.

Google is using its monopoly search market to insert its local search results in the normal search results, this is very bad as there are local competitors like the above mentioned site which loses visitors due to this

Well, by very nature AskLaila model is a stone age model by definition of Internet time(5-10 years old). VCs are hoping that a copy of what worked in US in 2002 will work in India in 2007. Wakeup guys this is 2007 and businesses must think innovation to just survive let alone thrive in this competitive Internet world.
