when was the last time you entered a mall and your cell phone told you the best disscounts available in the mall!!!
Well now Advertisers have tapped this (bluetooth) technology to provide customers latest in-mall information, which would help shoppers get the best out of their shopping experience.
What does one have to do?
its very simple. you enter the mall, switch on your Bluetooth after which you will receive messages, probably promotional messages to get customers in their shop.
e.g - Subway (Food Joint) may be at the other end of the mall but could inform customers about the "Sub of the day" along with its price. so after one finishes shopping, one has already made a choice of food for consumption.
even if one choose not to eat at the shop, it still acts as an effective targeted advertisement which could have a larger impact in the future. going ahead this service could also be customized person to person by allowing users to get advertisements only of select items/services.
Companies like companies like Pantaloon, Levi’s and Pepsi, Café Coffee Day. Titan, Woodland, Cookieman and Adidas are some of the companies that are already experimenting with this technology in the country.
In an article, Rajiv Hiranandani of mobile2win (a Value added Service (VAS) software provider) said: “Even though Bluetooth existed for quite sometime, it was only used for transferring of data for individual uses. Now the companies are setting up Dongles (servers) that beams the data across a shopping complex or a mall enabling commercial use of the technology”.
The potential is certainly huge considering that most phones now-a-days have bluetooth. there are certainly a few issues concerning Bluetooth technology, but that we leave for later where we will provide an indepth view of Bluetooth technology as new advertising medium.
