Zee’s digital arm Digital Media Convergence limited has launched a site around Page 3 events, celebrities and parties known as Page3flicks.com. Page3Flicks.com has slide show of pictures from various page 3 events and parties. It also has a party tracker and a whats tonite page for people who would like to follow such events.
Page3Flicks would surely attract an audience but I think it has to go beyond just pictures and look at video and also user generated content in terms of discussions around these events, celebs and fashion. They do have a page 3 gossip page but nothing that can engage a user who would like to comment, discuss and maybe even share as many fans do visit these parties/events and can share their experiences.
Page3Flicks isn’t the only site that Zee’s digital arm Digital Media Convergence limited has ventured into earlier it was also responsible for ICL’s (Indian Cricket Leagues’s) official site. Zee is also looking at exploring further opportunities on the web in genres like social networking (NO! Not another social network!), entertainment, sports (ICL), parties(Page3flicks) and service outsourcing.
It seems like all the traditional media companies are crowding the web with so called "portal" launches. Its a trend that i am seeing where tranditional media players are using premium content to build their web presence. I see very few using technology/applications to create a successful web presence. Infact among the top 100 sites in India most of them are great applications which have user generated content i.e. they are actually web platforms like facebook, orkut, youtube, digg, wikipedia and so on but none by an indian as yet
.. I guess there is still time for indian products to have that edge till then i guess we would be surviving on content driven websites rather than feature driven.
