Online Gaming is booming in India! Atleast thats what you will feel after you read this post.. Now the use of gaming and its status in India both of these might change in the future..
ICICI Bank uses games for elearing
Firstly lets start with an innovative use of online games. ICICI Bank is using online games as a way to train their employees. According to this article more than 2,000 ICICI employees have been playing games, and winning prizes, as preparation for handling customers! The use of online games fits in nicely with the HR department’s focus on e-learning. According to K. Ramkumar, group head, HR, ICICI Bank “The gaming initiative reinforces our brand proposition of anytime, anywhere learning,”.
So if innovative use of online games wasn’t wnough to suggest how big gaming is getting then Gaming getting industry status should really make you notice gaming as the next big opportunity.
Gaming Companies looking to get gaming Industry Status
According to this article Indiagames.com along with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and other industry players is planning to approach the central government to get an industry status for the gaming segment (online and for handhelds) in India. As gaming doesn’t come into the purview of any particular ministry they will approach the IT, Telecom and sports ministry with the proposal.
Now if even this doesn’t feel like gaming is going places wait till you read the next piece of news!
Indian Gamers rock the World Cyber Games!
7 Indian gamers defeated the Pakistani online games team ‘Havok’ and retained its top slot in the 2007 World Cyber Games Competition. These 7 gamers were known as ‘Temple of 7’(TO7) and were backed by Games2win.com the online gaming website. Team TO7 will now head to Seattle, where they will represent India and Games2win in the finals of the World Cyber Games 2007.
I hope by now you are convinced that gaming is going places. I see tremendous potential in online casual gaming especially because its not only limited to the youth but also transcends to a bored employee, a bored housewife or a bored senior citizen. Yes! I feel the need for gaming and alternative entertainment will arise with the rise in boredom from other mediums of entertainment like TV, print etc.
