‘India’s 1st Web 2.0 Matrimony site is SimplyMarry!’ hahaha.. What a Joke?!!
Yes and im not kidding! If you don’t believe me you can read this press release or the most unbiased newspaper on this earth the timesofindia. SimplyMarry is claiming to be India’s 1st Web 2.0 matrimony site.
And what is the path breaking super creative and amazingly excellent web 2.0 changes that Simply Marry has done?
Hold your breath!!! They have added a feature in which when you update your profile it gets updated immediately and doesnt take ages.. (Times group remember its suppose to take ages!). Wow! I mean that is SO Web 2.0!! Right! They claim to have used web 2.0 technologies like such as AJAX, JSP, and XML. Wow so if i add one Ajax form in my site its Web 2.0!!! Brilliant!
This is what Mr. R. Sundar, President, Times Business Solutions had to say, “Simple Match Making is the Mantra of the Day. SimplyMarry.com is all that its name stands for, simple, uncomplicated, and designed to ensure that your soulmate finds you; the Simple Registration Web 2.0 technology, is highly intuitive and provides instant updates and ideal matches in real time.”
I just hope Tim O’Reilly the man who coined the term Web 2.0 doesn’t read this blog and doesn’t visit simplymarry or he wont live a happy life ever after seeing the sheer abuse of his coined term.
For anyone who is interested in the definition of Web 2.0 Here is one by Wikipedia "
The phrase Web 2.0 refers to a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites, wikisand folksonomies — which aim to facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to Web technical specifications, but to changes in the ways software developers and end-users use the web as a platform."
Additionally if you would want my version of web 2.0 and what a web 2.0 strategy is you can read this post.
I hope the guys at simply marry learn definitions first before claiming something like this. Or else it wont by SimplyMarry.com it would be SimplyJokers.com!

Just wanted to add to what Rajiv' already said:
I like the look of SimplyMarry.com though. They are the closest to what ClearTrip has done for Travel. As far as Web 2.0 is concerned – it's a niche. Especially in India and the Times Group is looking at using the term for their marketing initiatives.
So though we might not appreciate this move – it's an age old marketing move. Push PR and a campaign for an – ALL NEW – product. Just gets the prospective buyers curious enough to visit the site.
The True Web 2.0 is ZOHO: The Incredible Suite.
Web 2.0 = RIA + SOA + Social Web.
Ajax is the Tech Term and simply a piece of Web 2.0.
I am wondering why still indian people are not getting meaning of Web 2.0 though it has already got so much matured and WATneers had made lot of effort to bring the meaning and insight of Web 2.0.
I think some one should advertise on Star Plus during Kunki Saas be Khabhi Bahoo Thee serial show about what Web 2.0 is all about.
Web 2.0 is a marketing term and thats what they have used it for. Taking a plug out of Seth Godin's – Aren't all marketers liars, anyway?
The PR did make me go visit their site – so I guess it did do what it was supposed to do.
v-slog.blogspot.com
Lol, india's first matrimony 2.0 site?,
they are jokers., atleast JS and Bharatmatrimony have rss feeds,
Web 2.0? HA HA
Web 2.0 is not a marketing Term:
http://www.google.co.in/search?q=define:web+2.0
From: http://www.oreillynet.com
In the year and a half since, the term "Web 2.0" has clearly taken hold, with more than 9.5 million citations in Google. But there's still a huge amount of disagreement about just what Web 2.0 means, with some people decrying it as a meaningless MARKETING buzzword, and others accepting it as the new conventional wisdom.

When you cant win, Act as a Winner will not always help
Neha what you said is 100% correct! These starters just don't have another way to show up in market. bharatmatrimony.com and shaadi.com stands first ! Also many believe that web 2.0 is just about adding ajax, giving clean and fresh interface and validating their xml and xhtml thing. the ceo of simplymarry should try some web 2.0 validator tool before giving their words.
sorry rajiv, i thought neha wrote this article !
@ sankaranand:
You said "Also many
believe that web 2.0 is just about adding ajax, giving clean
and fresh interface and validating their xml and xhtml"
So what exactly is Web 2.0?
User Generated Content?
@ Sarathy – there would not have been so much disagreement if the term actually meant something solid and discrete. The fact is – its fuzzy, sounds sexy and provides just a rough reference to what's being discussed. You probably have seen this already, but here's Eric Schmidt's (the CEO of the search engine that shows 9.5 million references for Web 2.0
says

Web2.0 is also an attitude – esp. for designers. Web2.0 has its pangs in various aspects of the entire web, for e.g. in technology with AJAX, RICO, Ruby on Rails, etc. In design with advent of curved borders, colour gradients, more CSS styling, etc. With respect to end users by facilitating networking, sharing and promoting UGC.
It's important to understand that all these put together defines a truly web2.0 site because all things put alone were existing in the web1.0 times also … for e.g. you could network and share, forums are based on UGC – technology was also there with XML/JS/CSS and some people must have made some web2.0ish templates from a design point of view. But lately, its just the amalgamation of all these in completely new ways which has generated this buzz. I also feel the advent of flash and the effects it could bring out has also contributed a lot to the upcoming technology advances with people realising that much of these amazing things can be done in AJAX without making the sites too heavy and also allowing the SE's to index the content at the same time!
Personally, I have nothing against SimplyMarry and they can surely pompom their rise to web2.0 but I agree that they cannot claim themselves to be the 1st, because its not just technology that makes you web2.0ish
Just my 2 cents!
I have come across a fairly growing matrimonial service in down south http://www.swayamwara.com – it has all good features and a sizable list of Brides and grooms.
2 of our family members found fruitful alliances thru this swayamwara and promises for its quality service.
The membership cost (750 / 3months) is very affordable and the best part is all members who have given thier mobile numbers while free registration recieves sms alerts whenever a free proposal or direct message they receive from other users. It saves lot of time and many parents are conveniently enjoying this sms service too….So, check out please…
