The youth is known for being rebellious and independent. Its these characteristics that actually define the new age applications on the web as well. Right from youtube to orkut to facebook all offer customizability and genx kind of freedom oriented feeling with their features and the ability to contact people or upload anything anytime build a direct connect with the youth.

The same was attempted to be replicated by rediff with their ishare. Ishare which we wrote about earlier before had started as a tool in which you need to download a desktop client in order to upload videos, pictures and music and share it with everyone. I guess rediff has realized that the number of population in India which would be creating content and then uploading it would be limited especially when you take into consideration that a majority of rediff’s traffic would be comming from B and C class cities (this is my assumption) given the penetration of social networks in A class cities.

So what did ishare do different?

So rediff which had earlier tied up with Saregamapa for exclusive showcasing of their video’s has now tied up with Anecho an organisation that promotes and supports non commercial music. Though its looks like more emphasis is on rock bands. I was at the launch and i must say the music was really good something all the teenagers and 20 year olds would love to lissen to. To hear for yourself you can click here to hear Nihar one of the people behind anecho.

Why this strategy might work in India?

This strategy by rediff to build content tie ups especially in various entertainment sectors is a very good move to improve and promote good content on ishare and attracting new traffic in the hope that in due course of time its actual users would also start participating by upload more videos thereby making this echo louder!
