Just read this article and it made me have a relook at my own office. I guess my office is cool because we do a lot more R&D which means random surfing, playing games and trying out new applications! What else did you expect from Web 2.0 Strategy Consultants in their 20’s ;)!

But every office isn’t like the WAT office.. Internet is a very distracting medium compared to radio and print because the same PC can be used to send an official email while at the same time you could be browsing through the profile of your long lost college sweetheart on orkut.

According to a survey conducted by online compensation firm Salary.com, revealed about six out of 10 employees in the US acknowledged wasting time at work. Hmm.. I wonder what’s the statistic in India?

About 34% listed personal Internet use as the leading time-wasting activity in the workplace.

Almost one-fifth of those surveyed in a 2006 Israeli-American poll said they accessed online sex sites at work. We had done a post sometime back on the online status of porn in India and had come up with some interesting insights as well. Im sure the offices in india do conribute to this porn traffic.
Besides for porn, Social networking is another activity is which is slowly bu surely getting banned from offices. There are innumerable blogs by office goers wanting to know how to access banned orkut. Whereas corporate americe has decided to ban facebook according to this article by mashable.
This trend just goes to show how both internet and social media are becoming an inseparable part of the young working population and such attempts to curb this rend will only further encourage it. I guess companies need to embrace internet and social media in is entirety and make use of tools like networking, blogs and wiki’s to increase productivity among co-workers. The companies which do adapt to this impending change in which its employees communicate will surely reap benefits of internet and social media

Fast approaching a 1000 posts on WAT, Rajiv has been the driving force or maybe just the boss :P around here. The Chief blogger he shows a fascination for the colour blue unrivaled by anyone else. However, leaving that murky quality aside Rajiv does some excellent analysis of the digital media industry in India and often puts many in discomfort with his inimitable style of interviewing.
