Forrester to give awards for Social Media Excellence!

Forrester Research did a research on social computing where it found the following results:

47 per cent marketers in the US plans to use RSS feeds. (Even WATBlog has more RSS Readers than email subscribers)

51 per cent plans to use blogs.

79 per cent plans to use search marketing.

The research also emphasized that social media is not a trend, but a phenomenon which will impact the way business is conducted.

But it isn’t only this research. Forrester Research is also organizing Groundswell Awards for excellence in Social Technology.  Groundswell Awards would honour the most effective and innovative use of social technologies for business. Social technologies include sharing and communication platforms such as blogs, wikis, social networks, podcasts and file sharing sites.

Entries can be submitted to Forrester in seven categories: Listening, Speaking, Energising, Supporting, Embracing, Managing and Social Impact. Each of these categories represents a different use of social technology. Listening, for instance, is about using private communities like Communispace for ratings and reviews. Speaking is about communicating with customers through blogs, podcasts and user-generated media and so on.. Entries must be sent before 1st September to groundswell@forrester.com.

Winners get a free ticket to the Forrester’s Consumer Forum, a fantastic event in Chicago October 11 and 12, 2007.

Im sure there must be many such cases in the US where blogs, wiki’s and social networking tools would have been created by companies to enhance their business productivity.

Unfortunately in India this is still at a nascent stage with companies now starting corporate blogs (WATConsult is already managing two indian corporate blogs). Going ahead i see there being tremendous opportunity for large corporates to engage with social media technologies to bring longterm measurable positive results for their company. I think WATBlog would be submitting an entry for this award :) . Im not sure whether its only US.. I shall read up a little more but nevertheless we would love to participate. Do send your entries too if you have blog/wiki/social media that has created an impact for your company.
