Online Campaign forces Cadbury to relaunch a chocolate bar!


NYT: The power of internet has forced Cadbury’s to relaunch a choclate bar. Cadbury Schweppes is relaunching a chocolate bar called Wispa, after nearly 14,000 people joined “bring back Wispa” groups on Facebook, signed online pettions,posted videos ads on youtube. A video is posted below.

The popular choclate bar was discontinued by Cadbury four years ago when sales were falling and Cadbury’s moves towards the Dairy Milk superbrand

"For the first ever time we have seen overwhelming online interest in reviving one of our brands," said Tony Bilsborough, a spokesman for Cadbury said to press

I am not very sure. but a similar case happened in India. A popular Pizza joint started a pizza outlet after reading a blog post about lack of pizza outlet in there locality in Bangalore

UPDATE BY RAJIV - This only reestablishes the power that social media and communities that are building online can have on brands and consumers insights for companies. Those companies that ignore these online conversations are missing out on real consumer feedback and insights and possibly millions in revenue.
