Yatra seems to be bitten by the mobile bug. They are offering three types of mobile products for the users using which users can search and book air tickets.
1. SMS – ‘Register – Search – Book’
Users can search for air tickets after a one time registration, they can then book their tickets using this service. The SMS charge will be Rs 1.80-Rs 3, depending on the operator.
2. GPRS – ‘Yatra Wap – Search – Book’
Users having gprs enabled handsets can access the WAP website of yatra wap.yatra.com after which they can search and book tickets online. There would be data charges applicable from the operators end.
3. Application – ‘Download – Search – Book’
Yatra has internally developed a application for Wap enabled handsets which would require a one time download on the handset after which users would be able to search and book air tickets. The application would help reduce search time as the application is customized to best suit easy search. The data charges would probably be a little higher as one would also have to incur download costs (unless transferred from the comp)
Probably now Yatra should also look at providing payment solutions from the mobile phone. Their competitors like Makemytrip and others have tied up with Paymate to provide payment solutions from mobile handsets.
