PioTV.com went live after Union minister for overseas Indian affairs V Ravi formally unveiled the website in New Delhi on Thursday.

Munish Gupta, chairman and CEO, PioTV.com, said, “We want to be the online identity of the PIOs, we want to be their face.”

So what exactly is pioTV?
Well there About Us page currently bears a blank look.

Pio stands for People of Indian Origin and pioTV is looking to be an online community for the pio’s. They are looking at offering a bouquet of Digital Entertainment services – something which could eventually be an Online Television portal, something on the lines of what Nautanki.tv is looking to achieve.

The site has a much cluttered look to it and the bright orange & green definitely doesn’t make it easy on the eye, though it might give the appearance of a patriotism.

Events, astrology, numerology, travel, fashion, books etc all have sections.

The Numerology section has nothing except a line which says – Basic Numerology Reading $100.

The Movie Reviews category stands empty too.

The site could have definitely afforded to have some content already flowing before their ‘gala’ launch. Not sure if they have a particular age group in mind – but the current site is definitely not going to appeal to the youth and neither to the NRI women. It might do little to satiate the entertainment appetite of the male junta either. Networking features are pretty limited as of now.

It really baffles me how they’ve been able to tie-up with CNN (unless of course they are coughing up some money), PTI and Sanchar Bharti. I guess some amount of Government backing has definitely helped them. User Generated Content falls in their long-term plans too.

We’ll keep a look at this site and see how it progresses.
